Where does the capital picture stand?
Last week you mentioned 8 months runway. What's changed?
Still 8 months. Board wants to see a path to 18 before we raise. I don't know if we cut to get there or push for revenue. Both feel risky.
Runway isn't time — it's optionality
The board isn't asking for 18 months of survival — they're asking for 18 months of optionality. Those require different decisions.
What do investors actually want to see?
When you talk to investors about extending runway, what signals matter to them?
Growth rate, retention, maybe ARR. Honestly I'm not sure. Every investor seems to care about something different.
The metrics that close rounds
Investors list different metrics. Underneath every one is the same question: are you efficient? Tunguz maps what VCs actually pattern-match on before a Series A.
The real question
You have 8 months. You've been thinking about cut vs. grow. Which is actually the right frame?
Probably neither by itself. We need to grow efficiently. But I don't have a framework for what 'efficient' even means at our scale.
The number your board is actually watching
"Growing efficiently" has a specific metric: Burn Multiple. Net burn ÷ net new ARR. Below 1x is exceptional. David Sacks wrote the canonical framing — your board almost certainly uses it, whether or not they've said the word.
